PCHS Drama to present “Cinderella” on April 20-23

Coming next weekend to the CEPA stage, the Pell City High School Drama Department will present Roger and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” It’s a classic performance about wicked stepsisters, fairy godmothers, pumpkin carriages and a very important glass slipper.

Abby Hodgens and Chapman Smith as Cinderella and her prince.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s version is a musical originally written for television. Like its other iterations, it’s the story of a young woman stuck in a life of service to her evil stepmothers and stepsisters. Through a little magic, she ends up at a grand ball where, looking like a princess, she falls in love with a prince. There’s just never enough time to truly find love though, you know?

The stepfamily – stepmother Allison Epperson, stepsisters Hollie Thweatt and Kristyn Sims.

Julie Andrews played the title role in the first production of this version in 1957 – a broadcast viewed by more than 100 million people. It was subsequently remade for television twice, in 1965 and 1997. The 1965 version starred Lesley Ann Warren, and the 1997 one starred Brandy Norwood in the title role.

Cinderella will be shown four times for the public beginning next week. Show dates are Thursday-Saturday, April 20-22 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students at the door.

The royals – king Alex Duck, queen Caitlynn Darby, steward Jameson Willis with Chapman Smith as the prince.

CEPA is located at 25 Williamson Drive, Pell City, 35125 just off US 78 next to Pell City High School. For more, call our administrative office at (205) 338-1974 or email director@pellcitycepa.com.
